SUMMARY: On Saturday, February 14, 2026, at approximately 2:13 p.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin Station responded to a report of a grand theft near Cactus Jack Road and Two Mile Road in the unincorporated area of Wonder Valley.
The victim reported that his blue, 40-foot storage container had been stolen within the past few weeks. Several personal items were inside the container, with an estimated value of approximately $5,400.
During the investigation, deputies developed information, which led them to a residence in the 6200 block of Cactus Jack Avenue. At that location, deputies observed three storage containers, one of which was positively identified by the victim as the stolen 40-foot container.
On Sunday, February 15, 2026, at approximately 8:42 a.m., deputies continued their investigation and returned to the residence, where they detained an adult male, later identified as Kevin Gilbert. A search warrant was served at the property, resulting in the recovery of approximately $7,500 in stolen property.
During the search, deputies also located a Ducati motorcycle that had been reported stolen from Lancaster in January of 2024. Additionally, deputies recovered approximately 101 rounds of .22-caliber ammunition. Gilbert is a convicted felon, and is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms or ammunition.
Gilbert was arrested and booked into the Morongo Basin Jail for violations of Penal Code sections 496(a) - Possession of Stolen Property, PC 30305(a) - Prohibited Person in Possession of Ammunition, and PC 487(a) - Grand Theft.
