On February 14th at about 1 pm, officers responded to an apartment building on the 2300 block of Le Conte Avenue on a report from a woman who had been sexually assaulted in a communal laundry room of the apartment building.
While officers spoke with the woman, other officers searched through the apartment building and located the suspect outside of his apartment. The suspect had altered his appearance after the crime by changing his clothing and shaving off his beard. In a nearby communal restroom, officers also found a shaver with hair clippings on the ground.
After collecting additional evidence in a subsequent search warrant of his apartment, officers arrested the suspect (Ahmad Lutfi, 34 years old) on suspicion of attempted rape, false imprisonment, and sexual battery.
