INCIDENT: In Custody Death Investigation
LOCATION: West Valley Detention Center, Rancho Cucamonga
DECEDENT: Katie Sarah Jackson, 43-years-old, Resident of Fontana
SUMMARY: On Monday, February 16, 2026, at approximately 10:54 p.m., deputies assigned to the West Valley Detention Center were alerted to an inmate who had suffered a medical emergency. Deputies immediately rendered aid and requested medical staff respond to the housing unit. Medical personnel-initiated life saving measures until personnel from American Medical Response arrived and pronounced Jackson deceased.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail responded to the location and assumed the investigation. It was found that Jackson was originally arrested and booked at the West Valley Detention Center on May 30, 2024, by the Fontana Police Department on a charge of PC368(B)(1). The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
