Severe Weather Update #1

HNL Alert from the Oahu Department of Emergency Management

Issued: 09:32 AM 02-21-2026

Severe Weather Update #1
Saturday 2/21/26 9:30am

Oahu remains under a Flash Flood Warning until 12:45pm today, Saturday 2/21. Heavy rains are impacting the island and causing flooding in streams and roadways, especially in Windward areas. The Flash Flood Warning may be extended beyond 12:45pm if conditions do not improve. Stay off the roads. If you must drive, use extreme caution and check for road closures.

Use extreme caution when outdoors. Follow all instructions from emergency officials.

The City and County of Honolulu Department of Emergency Management encourages residents to take action to stay safe during flooding events.

  • Turn around, don’t drown! Do not attempt to walk, swim, or drive through flowing or rising water. Floodwaters can rise rapidly. Just 1 foot of moving water can sweep away a vehicle. If your vehicle is caught in rapidly moving water, stay inside. If water begins to rise inside the vehicle, get on the roof.
  • Use extreme caution outdoors and check the weather forecast. Do not cross flooded streams. Streambeds that appear dry can quickly flood due to rain upstream, even if it is not raining where you are.
  • Evacuation: Go to high ground and evacuate if directed or you feel unsafe. If trapped in a building, move to higher floors or the roof and signal for help.
  • Be aware of the risk of electrocution. Do not touch electrical equipment if it is wet or you are standing in water. If it safe to do so, turn off electricity to prevent shock.
