Pemberton Township Preparing for Major Winter Storm, February 22 – 23, 2026

PRESS RELEASE

Pemberton Township Preparing for Major Winter Storm, February 22 – 23, 2026

Pemberton Township officials are preparing for a major winter storm forecast to impact the region from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon, bringing the potential for 12–18 inches of snow, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, precipitation will begin as rain Sunday morning, transitioning to heavy snow Sunday afternoon and evening, with the heaviest snowfall expected overnight into Monday morning.

Wind gusts may reach 40 mph inland, creating blowing and drifting snow and periods of near-zero visibility.

Blizzard conditions are possible.

Public Works Storm Operations

The Department of Public Works will activate its full storm response beginning 8:00 PM Sunday. Crews will operate in overlapping 14-hour shifts to maintain continuous coverage throughout the event.

Operational Actions

  • Plowing begins at 2 inches of accumulation on primary roads.
  • Primary routes maintained on 60 - 90-minute cycles during peak snowfall.
  • Secondary routes serviced every 3 - 4 hours; cul-de-sacs and dead ends 4 – 6 hours as conditions allow.
  • Salt application limited during heavy snowfall to improve plow efficiency.
  • Operations may be temporarily suspended if blizzard conditions occur; emergency access will continue.

DPW has 400 tons of salt on hand, with additional deliveries pending. All equipment, fuel, and spare parts have been pre-staged.

What Residents Should Expect

  • Roads may become snow-covered and hazardous, especially overnight Sunday into Monday.
  • Travel is strongly discouraged during the height of the storm.
  • Residents should remove vehicles from roadways where possible to allow plow access.
  • Secure trash cans, basketball hoops, and loose items that may blow into the roadway.
  • Expect reduced visibility, drifting snow, and delays in clearing low-volume streets.

A post storm cleanup operation is scheduled for Tuesday, including curb to curb widening, clearing of municipal lots, and treatment of icy areas.

Emergency Services

Police, Fire, and EMS will remain fully staffed throughout the event. Public Works will prioritize emergency access routes and respond to requests for assistance as conditions permit.
