Please read this message in its entirety.
Snow starts Sunday afternoon and continues through Monday afternoon. Total snow accumulation is expected to average 6– 10 inches around the County, with locally higher amounts of 12-14 inches possible. The heaviest snowfall will be from Sunday night through the Monday morning. Expect blizzard conditions at times with snowfall rates between 1-2 inches per hour, reduced visibility, whiteout conditions, and blowing/drifting snow. Temperatures during the day Sunday and Monday will be in the mid 30’s and low temperatures will be 30 -32 degrees. Winds will be 15 - 25 MPH, with gusts up to 45 MPH. Please avoid travelling from late Sunday evening through Monday afternoon.
If you experience a power outage, please call PSE&G directly at 1-800-436-7734. Register for MyAlerts from PSE&G to report outages and receive text/email updates about the status of the power outage. Text "REG" to 4PSEG (47734). Report an outage by texting "OUT" to 4PSEG. Power outages and the power outage map can be found at https://outagecenter.pseg.com/external/default.html
Do not call the Police Department to report a power outage or to ask when power will be restored.
The Borough’s snow removal trucks will plow each street curb to curb during this snowfall. You must remove cars parked in the roadway during the storm and until the streets have been plowed sufficiently and to the extent that parking will not interfere with the normal flow of traffic. Vehicles parked on the street will be ticketed.
Due to the winds, please do not place garbage or recycling at the curb until Monday morning. Please monitor social media, as it will be posted if there are changes to the collection schedule.
The Senior Center will be closed on Sunday and Monday. The Community Center will be opening at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. The Mini Bus service is cancelled for Monday.
Residents are also reminded that a Borough Ordinance prohibits the shoveling, placing, throwing or blowing of snow into or upon any street in Fair Lawn. The Borough would also like to remind residents that for the safety and welfare of our residents, please attempt to clear snow around fire hydrants and crosswalks.
When snow piles up, every second counts in an emergency. Please take a few minutes to:
- Clear at least 3 feet around the hydrant.
- Shovel a path from the street to the hydrant.
- Check regularly after each snowfall to prevent ice buildup.
Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts, prepare now, and use caution if travel becomes necessary.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this winter event. Fair Lawn Emergency Management will continue to monitor this situation and issue updates as necessary.
