MAJOR WINTER STORM UPDATE, AND PARKING RESTRICTIONS - CLICK LINK FOR MORE INFORMATION
MAJOR WINTER STORM UPDATE
Over the past week, the Office of Emergency Management and Cranbury Township Police Department have been coordinating preparations for a significant winter storm expected to impact our area Sunday into Monday (February 22–23, 2026). Forecasts indicate widespread heavy snow, with totals potentially ranging from 6–12+ inches in Central New Jersey (including Cranbury), depending on the exact track.
Our Department of Public Works (DPW), Police Department, Cranbury EMS, and Cranbury Volunteer Fire Department are fully prepared. Roadway plowing, clearing, and sidewalk maintenance will continue well after the storm ends.
PARKING RESTRICTIONS
Effective today, Saturday, February 21, 2026, the Middlesex County Department of Transportation placed NO PARKING signs along Main Street in Cranbury, from Plainsboro Road to Old Trenton Road.
- No vehicles may park on this stretch between 6:00 PM Sunday and 12:00 PM (noon) Monday.
- We strongly encourage residents to keep vehicles off all other county and municipal roadways throughout the township.
EXPECTED IMPACTS
- Extremely hazardous road conditions; widespread closures possible.
- Monday travel will be difficult, with plow crews working around the clock.
- Power outages possible due to heavy snow or icing. PSE&G, JCPL, and cable/internet providers are prepared and monitoring.
DPW (Department of Public Works)
- All staff mobilized for roadway clearing.
- Salt and plow vehicles ready.
- NJ DOT and Middlesex County DOT assisting on their respective routes.
- Increased staffing on all shifts.
- 24/7 coverage.
- Emergency Operations Center activated.
- Cranbury Volunteer Fire Department and Cranbury First Aid Squad on call and ready to assist throughout the storm.
If a travel ban is issued:
- Nonessential travel may be restricted on select roads.
- Commercial bans often apply to trucks, trailers, RVs, motorcycles, etc., on major highways.
- Essential/emergency personnel are exempt.
- Violations can be enforced under the Emergency Management Act or traffic laws.
Drivers must make reasonable efforts to remove accumulated snow/ice from exposed surfaces (hood, trunk, windshield, windows, roof, etc.) before driving. Failure to do so can result in fines ($25–$75), and if dislodged material causes injury/damage, higher penalties apply.
Cranbury Sidewalk Snow & Ice Removal (§ 130-39)
Property owners/occupants must clear snow/ice from the full width of the sidewalk abutting their property within 48 hours after the storm ends or ice forms.
- Do not shovel or plow snow from driveways onto streets or public sidewalks (prohibited).
- After warnings, daily fines may apply during ongoing winter events.
