Alert

STATE OF EMERGENCY EFFECTIVE 12:00 PM, SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2026

Due to the impending severe winter storm causing hazardous weather conditions across the State, including blizzard conditions in our area, Governor Sherrill has declared a State of Emergency effective 12:00 PM, Sunday, February 22, 2026. The declaration urges all nonessential personnel to stay off the roadways unless absolutely necessary to allow for emergency services to operate safely and effectively.

The storm is expected to bring blizzard conditions, with wind gusts up to 50 mph and the strongest winds occurring from Sunday evening through Monday afternoon. Total snow accumulations of 12–18 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts possible. Snowfall rates could reach 1–2 inches per hour, leading to reduced visibility, whiteout conditions, and blowing and drifting snow. The heaviest snowfall is anticipated from Sunday night through Monday morning.

Parking Restrictions
There is no parking on Borough streets when they are covered with snow or ice. Parked vehicles must be promptly removed from Borough streets once snow begins to cover the roads.

There is no police-approved overnight parking beginning Sunday night until an announcement is issued declaring the end of the emergency. Even if approval was previously granted for multiple nights, vehicles must be moved.

Sidewalks and Snow Removal
Please allow Borough DPW crews to safely plow roadways. Residents must remove portable basketball hoops and any other obstructions from the right of way.

Plows must push roadway snow into the Borough right of way, which includes sidewalks. Residents should keep this in mind when clearing sidewalks, as shoveling too early may result in additional snow being pushed back onto cleared areas by plows.

Once snowfall ends, residents are required to shovel the full width of sidewalks, including driveway aprons, within 24 hours. When shoveling or snow blowing, do not deposit snow into the street.

Fire Hydrants
New Jersey State Law requires property owners to clear snow from fire hydrants within 24 hours after a storm. Homeowners must clear a path to the street and maintain a three-foot radius around each hydrant. Keeping fire hydrants accessible is critical to public safety.

Recycling Center
The Ho-Ho-Kus Recycling Center will be closed Monday, February 23, 2026.

Vehicle Safety
All snow and ice must be removed from your vehicle, including the roof, hood, and windows, before driving. This is required by New Jersey State Law.

Closures and Transportation
Due to the severe weather conditions, NJDOT and NJ Transit rail and bus service may experience disruptions, detours, or suspensions. Residents are encouraged to monitor njtransit.com or the NJ Transit mobile app for updates.

Power Outages
Snow and wind may cause downed trees and power lines. To report outages, contact PSE&G at 1-800-436-7734. Do not approach downed wires.

Failure to comply with any of the above parking and snow removal requirements is a violation of Borough ordinance and is subject to summons.

We will continue to monitor the storm and issue updates as necessary. Stay safe, and please remember to check on your elderly neighbors and those who may need assistance.
