Winter Storm Update - Sunday, February 22 through Monday, February 23, 2026

Governor Mikie Sherrill has declared a State of Emergency effective 12pm Sunday, February 22 ahead of a severe winter storm.

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for all of New Jersey. A potentially historic storm is expected through Monday afternoon.

Worst conditions: Sunday evening through Monday morning.

Avoid all unnecessary travel Sunday afternoon through Monday.


What to Expect

Heavy snow with rates up to 1–2 inches per hour

Whiteout conditions and dangerous or impossible travel

Wind gusts up to 60 mph along the coast

Moderate coastal flooding during high tides

Residents in low-lying areas near the ocean and surrounding lakes should prepare for roadway flooding around high tide cycles.

 

City Service Updates

Metered parking is suspended Sunday and Monday.

Garbage collection is canceled Monday.

 

Power Outages Possible

Strong winds and heavy snow may cause outages and tree damage. Prepare for possible extended outages. Fully charge devices, have flashlights and supplies ready, and report outages to JCP&L by texting OUT to 544487 or calling 1-888-544-4877. Stay at least 30 feet from downed wires and call 911.

 

Emergency Cell Phone Charging

If there is a large-scale outage, emergency charging will be available at the Asbury Park Fire Department, 800 Main Street.

The Fire Department is not a warming center and is not open for general sheltering.

 

Code Blue Update

• Overnight warming at Mercy Center, 901 Main Street (former Walgreens location) beginning 5pm Sunday

Trinity Episcopal Church is closed Sunday and Monday
