MAJOR WINTER STORM UPDATE
Snow has started to fall throughout the township. Forecasts indicate widespread heavy snow, with totals potentially ranging from 8-16+ inches in Central New Jersey (including Cranbury).

Please stay off of the roadways if possible. Please remove all parked vehicles off of roadways if possible. This will help expidite the snow removal process, make the snow removal process more efficient, and keep all persons and property safe.

PARKING RESTRICTIONS
NO PARKING restrictions along Main Street in Cranbury, from Plainsboro Road to Old Trenton Road has been put into effect by the Middlesex County Department of Transportation. 

  • No vehicles may park on this stretch until 4:00 PM Monday.

EXPECTED IMPACTS
  • Extremely hazardous road conditions; widespread closures possible.
  • Monday travel will be difficult, with plow crews working around the clock.

TRAVEL BAN & DRIVING REMINDERS
If a travel ban is issued:
  • Nonessential travel may be restricted on select roads.
  • Commercial bans often apply to trucks, trailers, RVs, motorcycles, etc., on major highways.
  • Essential/emergency personnel are exempt.
  • Violations can be enforced under the Emergency Management Act or traffic laws.
New Jersey Law: Vehicle Snow/Ice Removal (Title 39:4-77.1) 
Drivers must make reasonable efforts to remove accumulated snow/ice from exposed surfaces (hood, trunk, windshield, windows, roof, etc.) before driving. Failure to do so can result in fines ($25–$75), and if dislodged material causes injury/damage, higher penalties apply.

Cranbury Sidewalk Snow & Ice Removal (§ 130-39)
Property owners/occupants must clear snow/ice from the full width of the sidewalk abutting their property within 48 hours after the storm ends or ice forms.
  • Do not shovel or plow snow from driveways onto streets or public sidewalks (prohibited).
  • After warnings, daily fines may apply during ongoing winter events.
