STATE OF EMERGENCY WINTER STORM UPDATE
Hawthorne Police Department Traffic Bureau
As the winter storm begins to impact our area this evening, residents are advised that a State of Emergency is now in effect for the Borough of Hawthorne.
Significant snowfall and hazardous conditions are expected overnight into Monday, February 23, 2026.
The Hawthorne Police Department Traffic Bureau respectfully requests that all residents immediately make every effort to remove vehicles from Borough roadways. Keeping vehicles off the streets allows the Department of Public Works to plow curb to curb, reduces the need for repeated snow removal operations, and ensures that police, fire, and EMS personnel can access neighborhoods without delay.
We understand that winter storms create inconvenience. The Police Department does not take pleasure in issuing summonses or removing vehicles; however, following major snow events, enforcement of Borough parking ordinances including Ordinance 505-49 (24-hour parking limitation) and emergency snow removal restrictions is necessary to protect public safety and maintain passable roadways.
Vehicles left on roadways during a declared emergency or beyond the allowable time limits may be summonsed and/or removed.
Your cooperation directly impacts how quickly roadways can be cleared and how safely emergency services can respond.
Please continue to monitor official Borough communications, the Mayor’s social media updates, and Nixle alerts for ongoing information.
We appreciate your partnership and cooperation as we work together to keep Hawthorne safe during this storm.
