MANDATORY TRAVEL RESTRICTION - STATE OF EMERGENCY IN EFFECT 

 

The State of New Jersey Office of Emergency Management has issued a mandatory travel restriction, which is in effect from 9:00 PM Sunday, February 22, 2026, until 7:00 AM Monday, February 23, 2026 due to severe winter storm conditions.
 
All vehicles are prohibited from operating on state, county, municipal, and interstate roadways during this period. Violators may face penalties under state law.
 
Exemptions include:
 
Emergency and public safety personnel
 
Public works and snow removal crews
 
Public transportation vehicles and personnel
 
Government officials on official business
 
Utility company personnel
 
Healthcare workers and urgent medical travel
 
Emergency shelter and human services personnel
 
Delivery of critical medical supplies
 
News media
 
Private snow removal contractors
 
Patients seeking urgent care
 
Travel necessary to maintain critical infrastructure (energy, fuel, food, pharmacies, hardware stores)
 
Airline and airport personnel
 
This measure is intended to protect lives and allow emergency crews to clear roadways and restore essential services.
 
Avoid ALL non-essential travel. Stay indoors whenever possible.

BLIZZARD WARNING – STATE OF EMERGENCY IN EFFECT
AVOID ALL NON-ESSENTIAL TRAVEL DURING PERIOD – DO NOT SHOVEL SNOW INTO ROADWAYS
 
On behalf of Mayor Michael Johnson and Haledon Emergency Management Coordinator Carlos Aymat, the Haledon Office of Emergency Management provides the following update regarding the impending winter storm.
 
The National Weather Service Blizzard Warning remains in effect from Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 1:00 PM until Monday, February 23, 2026, at 6:00 PM. Total snow accumulations of 12 to 18 inches are possible.
Residents are strongly advised to avoid ALL non-essential travel during this period and to remain indoors whenever possible. Residents are also urged to keep pets indoors.
 
Emergency No Parking – REMAINS IN EFFECT
 
Pursuant to Borough of Haledon Resolution 2026-034, Emergency No Parking remains in effect on both sides of the street while roadways are snow-covered on the following borough roads:
 
Ford Road
Cypress Avenue
Paterson Avenue
Ryerson Avenue
Albanese Road
 
Residents are strongly urged to park vehicles in driveways to allow the Haledon Department of Public Works (DPW) to safely and effectively clear snow curb to curb wherever feasible.
 
Emergency No Parking signs reading “Emergency No Parking When Snow Covered” are posted and will be strictly enforced.
 
Important Reminders to Haledon Residents:
 
Snow Removal
All snow, including from sidewalks and vehicles, must be cleared within 24 hours after the snowfall ends, in accordance with the Haledon Municipal Code. Violations may result in a summons.
 
Roadways
Do NOT shovel or throw snow into public roadways. This is prohibited and subject to enforcement.
 
Parking Space Savers
The use of objects to reserve parking spaces is prohibited. Violators may be issued a summons.
 
Fire Hydrants
Residents are asked to clear snow around fire hydrants to ensure emergency access.
 
Driveway Parking
Whenever possible, park in your driveway to assist DPW snow removal operations and allow crews to plow curb to curb wherever feasible.
 
Community Safety
Residents are encouraged to check on elderly and disabled neighbors, particularly those who may need assistance during prolonged cold weather and hazardous conditions.
 
Closures and Service Impacts – Monday, February 23, 2026:
All Haledon Borough offices, the Haledon Public Library, and the Haledon Recreation Center will be closed.
 
Curbside garbage pickup has been canceled.
 
The Haledon Office of Emergency Management thanks residents for their continued cooperation as our crews work diligently to address this storm.
