On February 22, 2026, at approximately 6:45 p.m., the Santa Maria Police Department, along with medical personnel, responded to the area of Blosser Road and Bunny Avenue following a report of a possible person down near the roadway.
Upon arrival, officers located a deceased adult male near the roadway on the west side of Blosser Road. Preliminary investigation suggests the male was riding his bicycle in the southbound bike lane when he was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling in the same direction. The involved vehicle was not located, and the incident is currently being investigated as a fatal hit-and-run traffic collision.
The deceased male is described as an adult male in his 50s. At this time, officers are still working to positively identify the victim, and notification of next of kin is pending.
The Santa Maria Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has information related to this incident to contact the department or SMPD Dispatch. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
