Isaiah Washington Sentenced to 57 Years in Prison
In 2024, Isaiah Washington, age 26, of Beloit, sexually assaulted two different underage girls. In December 2025, after three days of trial, a Rock County jury found him guilty of multiple counts of Sexual Assault of a Child. Today, he was sentenced to 57 years in prison, followed by another 30 years of extended supervision.
In April of 2024, Washington molested a 13-year-old in the back of a car, and then sexually assaulted her in the bathroom of an apartment in Janesville. She reported the assault the next day. She gave a forensic interview at the YWCA Care House, and Detective Justin Stubbendick of the Janesville Police Department investigated, arresting Washington.
In late 2024, as Washington was in the Rock County Jail, a child reported that Washington had done the same to her at a house in Beloit, when she was eleven years old. The young victim also gave a forensic interview at the YWCA Care House, and her case was investigated by Child Maltreatment Officer Dylann Rauch of the Beloit Police Department. Both young victims had to testify at Washington’s trial, with Assistant District Attorney Alex Goulart prosecuting the case. The jury found Washington guilty of a felony child sex assault against each young victim.
At the sentencing, Goulart asked that Washington be sentenced to 50 years in prison, plus an additional 30 years of extended supervision. Washington is “violent and predatory,” Goulart argued, and Washington has the sort of character where “it is everybody’s fault but his.” Goulart also praised the children as “survivors who are resilient,” and who “showed more bravery than a child should ever have to.” Goulart said the young girls coming forward “likely prevented future victims,” and argued that it was now the justice system’s job to imprison Washington for decades, both to prevent future victims, and because these crimes called for “a moral need for punishment.” Washington’s attorney asked for a much lighter sentence: ten years in prison, plus another ten years of extended supervision. Washington declined to say anything before he was sentenced. Before imposing sentence on Washington, Rock County Judge Karl Hanson addressed the young sex assault survivors, and the “strength and courage” it took to come into court to testify about Washington sexually assaulting them. Judge Hanson then told Washington that he looks at “children and others who are vulnerable as prey.” Hansonsaid Washington had committed some of the “most reprehensible” crimes to come into his courtroom, and that he did not believe that Washington “could be rehabilitated.”
Before Hanson could pass final sentence, Washington interrupted and began arguing with the Judge, and bailiffs and Rock County Sheriff’s Deputies needed to escort Washington from the courtroom. After Washington had cooled down and was returned to the courtroom, Hanson proceeded to sentence him to 57 years in prison, followed by 30 years of extended supervision. “That sentence will likely put you past your life expectancy,” Hanson said, “but you will not be able to victimize anyone again.” Washington tried to get up and leave the courtroom, again arguing with Judge Hanson, and had to be escorted out of the courtroom again. The sentencing hearing ended with Washington in the holding cell, yelling and audibly kicking the door, while he watched and heard Hanson finish sentencing by video.
Assistant District Attorney Goulart commended Detective Stubbendick of the Janesville Police Department and said “the detective did a great job fully investigating the case against Mr. Washington and ensured we had the evidence against him to make sure he can never harm another child.” Goulart also thanked Officer Rauch of the Beloit Police Department for helping achieve justice for the victims in this case. Goulart added, “The Rock County Victim/Witness office, specifically Andrea Ehret and Tammy Stuckey, did an excellent job helping the victims and family navigate the criminal justice system in a very kind and understanding way.”
