WINTER STORM CLEANUP REMINDERS: PLEASE READ
Message from the Mayor and Council
Now that the winter storm has passed, residents are reminded of the following important cleanup and safety requirements:
Department of Public Works Update
Main roads are down to blacktop and secondary roads are continuing to clear. Residents are reminded not to clean vehicles off in the street and not to deposit snow from snowblowers into Borough roadways, as placing snow into the street creates hazardous conditions and slows cleanup operations.
As previously communicated, residents are required to shovel the full width of sidewalks, including driveway aprons, within 24 hours after snowfall has ended.
Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department – Fire Hydrants and Home Safety
New Jersey State law requires property owners to clear snow from fire hydrants within 24 hours after a snowstorm. Residents must clear a path from the hydrant to the street and maintain a three-foot radius around any hydrant located on or near their property.
Keeping hydrants clear is critical to public safety. Your firefighters were on standby at Fire Headquarters throughout the storm last night to protect you and your neighbors, and they should not have to spend valuable time clearing hydrants that property owners are responsible for maintaining.
Residents are also reminded to keep dryer vents, furnace vents, and natural gas meters clear of snow and ice. When removing snow or ice, do not strike or kick meters. Use a broom or snow brush and exercise caution when shoveling or snow blowing nearby.
Ho-Ho-Kus Police Department – Parking Restrictions
There is no police-approved overnight parking on Borough streets until further notice. Due to the large amount of snow along Borough roadways, on-street parking remains suspended. If any vehicles are currently parked on Borough streets, they must be moved off immediately.
Failure to comply may result in the issuance of a Borough summons and removal of the vehicle by tow.
