From Quay County SO: Armed suspects sought after shooting at NMSP officer. Shelter inside, lock doors/vehicles. Do NOT approach. Call 911.
This message is especially for the House, NM area. However, the rest of Quay County are urged to use precaution and contact 9-1-1 if you see anything suspicious.
The New Mexico State Police continue to actively search for a man and woman who shot at an NMSP officer during a traffic stop. The officer was not injured.
Agents have identified the female suspect as Makaela Johnson (pictured below), who was accompanying the male suspect (also pictured).
Johnson has an outstanding warrant for the following charges:
• Conspiracy to Commit First-Degree Murder
• Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Assault Upon a Peace Officer with a Deadly Weapon
• Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery
• Harboring a Felon
• Receiving or Transferring a Stolen Motor Vehicle
• Escape from a Peace Officer
• Larceny
Officers remain actively searching in and around the Fort Sumner area.
Residents are urged to remain inside, lock doors and vehicles, and stay alert.
Do NOT approach.
If you see either suspect, or observe suspicious activity, call 911 immediately.
Furthermore, if you believe you know the identity of the male suspect, please contact NMSP.
