Simi Valley Sees Continued Crime Reduction in 2025 Through Strong Community Partnership and Proactive Policing

The Simi Valley Police Department (SVPD) has released its finalized 2025 crime statistics, which continue to reflect a positive downward trend in crime across the city. These reductions are attributable not only to proactive policing strategies, but also to the strong working relationship between the department and the Simi Valley community, whose cooperation and engagement remain essential to public safety.

Crimes against persons declined by 3.28%, demonstrating measurable progress in reducing offenses that most directly impact victims. Crimes against property experienced a substantial decrease of 13.28%, reflecting continued success in prevention, enforcement, and investigative efforts targeting theft and burglary-related offenses.

Crimes against society, which include drug and weapon-related violations, also fell by 5.63%, further reinforcing the department’s focus on addressing behaviors that affect the broader well-being of the community.

“The 2023–2025 crime statistics show a steady overall decline in crime over the past three years,” said Steve Shorts, Chief of Police. “I attribute this progress to the dedicated efforts of our Police Department personnel and the active involvement of community members in crime prevention initiatives.

While I am encouraged by the continued reduction in crime, it is important to emphasize that a decline does not mean crime has been eliminated. The Police Department will continue to implement proactive policing strategies and work in close partnership with the community to further reduce crime and enhance public safety.”

The SVPD remains committed to working collaboratively with residents and community stakeholders to ensure Simi Valley remains a safe place to live, work, and visit. The department encourages residents to remain engaged by reporting suspicious activity and participating in neighborhood watch and community safety programs.
