DETAILS: **update February 26, 2026. The deceased person in this investigation has been identified as Lazaro Mbonankira, male, age 71. His family has been notified.
***original release---The Amarillo Police Department responded to a report of a deceased individual in the 9300 block of SE 3rd on 2/9/26.
Officers located a 72-year-old male deceased at the scene. Currently, there are no indications of foul play, and the death is being investigated as a sudden death.
The individual’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday in Lubbock, Texas, to determine the official cause of death.
This investigation is ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
