LOCATION: San Francisco Bay Trail, Redwood City
DATE/TIME: February 24, 2026, approximately 3:53 P.M.
On February 24, 2026, at approximately 3:53 P.M., Redwood City Police Officers were dispatched to the Bay Trail near Uccelli Boulevard on a report of a sexual assault that had occurred roughly 30 minutes prior to the call.
The female victim reported she had been running on the trail when she was approached by a Hispanic male who asked her for the time and whether she was running alone. The subject began to run alongside the victim. Shortly afterward, he unlawfully grabbed the victim before fleeing further onto the trail. The victim described the suspect as wearing an orange sweater.
RCPD personnel deployed a drone to assist with the search. While monitoring the area, officers observed a male subject who matched the description provided by the victim. Officers contacted the individual, who was positively identified by the victim as the suspect.
The suspect, Carlos Garciajuarez, was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility for a violation of PC 243.4(a) – Sexual Battery.
The San Francisco Bay Trail is a regional trail system that runs along the peninsula. Much of the trail in Redwood City runs between Highway 101 and the marsh area, making access by vehicle limited. The use of the drone significantly enhanced officers’ ability to locate and identify the suspect in this case.
The Redwood City Police Department encourages anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have additional information to contact RCPD at (650) 780-7100.
