A knife was located next to the suspect during the detention, and no one was injured.

San Mateo, CA – On February 26, 2026, at 8:15 p.m., the San Mateo Police Department responded to the 100 block of E. 3rd Avenue on a report of a subject asking citizens for money while holding a knife.
Officers arrived and, after speaking with an initial adult victim, learned the suspect, identified in this investigation as Jorge Castillomorales, approached the victim and asked for money. Castillomorales then brandished a knife and made a criminal threat, stepping closer and pointing the knife at the victim’s torso. Castillomorales walked to another area of the neighborhood, contacted a second adult victim, and brandished the knife in a threatening manner toward that individual.

Officers located Castillomorales in the area shortly thereafter and detained him. A knife matching the description provided by the victims was located next to Castillomorales. Based on the details of the investigation, Castillomorales was placed under arrest for first degree robbery, criminal threats, brandishing a deadly weapon other than a firearm, and public intoxication.

A third adult victim later reported a similar incident to the San Mateo Police Department by telephone.
No one was injured during this incident. Castillomorales was transported and booked into the San Mateo County Jail on the listed charges.
