Case Update: Second Suspect arrested in connection with a January Adeline Street shooting
On January 17th at 1:50 am, two female suspects forced their way inside a victim’s 4th floor apartment—culminating in one of the suspects firing a handgun at the victims several times.
Since that time, detectives identified both suspects involved in this incident. On January 23rd, detectives obtained warrants for both suspects for attempted murder, shooting at an inhabited dwelling, conspiracy, being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of ammunition, and robbery.
On February 3rd, detectives arrested one of the suspects, but the second suspect (China Omar, Female, 26 years old, Oakland, CA) had not yet been arrested.
On February 25th, Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras spotted a vehicle that Omar was affiliated with driving in the area of Alcatraz Avenue and Shattuck Avenue. Several officers then coordinated a search, which culminated in locating the vehicle and suspect in the second story parking lot of a grocery store on College Avenue. In addition to Omar being in the vehicle, the other suspect who had been previously arrested—Taurieanah Johnson (a 23-year-old woman from Vista, CA) was also in the vehicle along with a third person who was not involved in the shooting.
When officers searched the vehicle, they found personal identification and credit cards for over a dozen victims as well as Norco pills and Xanax bars (Case 2026-00009042).
Additionally, our Property Crime detectives were able to connect Omar to a previous commercial burglary from Northface store—where 160 articles of clothing were stolen (Case 2025-000024580).
Omar was arrested for the warrant issued because of her involvement in the shooting. In light of this new information, all three suspects were also arrested on suspicion of identity theft and drug-related offenses.
On February 27th, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Omar with PC 187(a)/664—attempted murder, PC 245(b)—Assault with a deadly weapon (firearm), PC 246.3(a)—discharging a firearm in a negligent manner, and PC 29800(a)(1)—felon in possession of firearm.
We appreciate the community’s patience and ongoing support as detectives worked diligently to bring this case to a resolution.
