Vehicle Tampering and Stolen Vehicle Investigation
HILLSBOROUGH, Calif.: On March 2, 2026, at approximately 3꞉37 a.m., a Hillsborough Police Department officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle tampering incident in progress in the 700 block of Chateau Drive. Two vehicles were stopped in the roadway, a black Nissan 370Z and a red Toyota Prius. The officer observed a male actively manipulating the Nissan 370Z in a manner consistent with vehicle tampering.
The officer exited his patrol vehicle to detain the individual, at which point the suspect fled on foot and the officer initiated a foot pursuit. During that pursuit, a second male, not previously visible to the officer, entered the Toyota Prius and fled eastbound on Chateau Drive after ignoring police commands to stop.
A coordinated multi-agency response followed, with assistance from neighboring law enforcement agencies. Officers performed an expanded search of the surrounding area in an effort to locate both subjects and the red Toyota Prius; however, the search concluded without locating either individual or the vehicle.
Officers subsequently confirmed that the Nissan 370Z had been stolen from the City of South San Francisco approximately 30 minutes prior to its discovery in Hillsborough. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from the area and analyzing evidence recovered at the scene and from the stolen vehicle as they work to identify those involved.
Both suspects are described as male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall. One wore a black hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and black shoes. The second wore a blue hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and black shoes.
