SUMMARY:
On Saturday, March 7, 2026, at approximately 9:40 PM, deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station, rescue personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Protection District, and American Medical Response responded to a five-vehicle traffic crash that occurred on State Highway 18, west of Mile Marker 92.5, in the town of Apple Valley.

During the investigation, deputies determined a white Nissan Frontier, driven by a 74-year-old male, traveled westbound in the number one eastbound lane of State Highway 18 toward Tao Road. The Nissan Frontier caused four other drivers into a five vehicle involved collision.

The driver of the Nissan Frontier suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital by ambulance. The driver later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The drivers from two involved vehicles also suffered injuries and were transported to a local hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.

An investigator from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigative Team (M.A.I.T.) assumed the investigation. The eastbound lanes of State Highway 18 were closed between the intersections of Tao Road and Piute Road for approximately three hours, and the east and westbound lanes of Outer State Highway 18 South were closed between the intersections of Atnah Road and Mandan Road for approximately two hours while deputies processed the scene for evidence and interviewed witnesses.

Anyone with any information or who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact Deputy T. Arlotti at the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station at (760) 240-7400 or Sheriff’s Dispatch at (760) 956-5001.
