Public Safety Advisory – Smoke & CO Detector Reminder
Spring safety tip: Take a moment TODAY to test and replace the batteries in all your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors!
- Replace batteries at least once a year (or when the unit chirps).
- Use fresh alkaline or lithium batteries as recommended by the manufacturer.
- Test each alarm by pressing the test button — you should hear a loud beep.
- Replace the entire unit every 10 years (check the manufacture date on the back).
Working detectors save lives — don't wait for the chirp! Questions? Contact your local fire department.
