Beginning Monday, March 9, 2026, the East Chicago Police Department will begin a citywide street and alley clean-up initiative.
During this initiative, officers will be addressing:
- Abandoned vehicles
- Vehicles illegally parked in alleys or easements
- Vehicles with out-of-state license plates that have not been properly registered in the State of Indiana within 60 days of residency
Residents are encouraged to use this time to remove abandoned vehicles from public streets and alleys and ensure that all vehicle registrations are current and compliant with Indiana law.
Vehicles found in violation may be issued
warnings, ticketed, or towed.
