The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) would like to share an update regarding the Takoma Aquatic Center (300 Van Buren Street, NW). Maintenance and upgrade work is nearly complete, and the facility is now scheduled to reopen on Friday, March 13, 2026.
The closure has allowed teams to complete several enhancements to improve the visitor experience, including:
- Plumbing system upgrades, including replacement of shower valve/diverter assemblies, reconfiguration of supply and drain lines, and ADA‑compliant layout adjustments.
- Removal and replacement of existing locker banks and tile assemblies, with new stainless‑steel lockers featuring integrated electronic locking systems, and refreshed ceramic tile wall assemblies in 18 shower stalls with waterproofing and finish work.
- Electrical system improvements, including LED lighting upgrades and power distribution for the electronic locker systems.
