The Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating a major crash that occurred in the 5900 block of Hillside involving a motorcycle and an SUV.
Preliminary information indicates the motorcycle was traveling westbound in the turning lane while a SUV was southbound exiting a private drive and attempting to turn eastbound onto Hillside. The SUV failed to yield the right of way, resulting in a collision with the motorcycle.
The motorcycle rider, a 59-year-old male, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The driver of the SUV was not injured.
The incident remains under investigation by the Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit.
