On Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at approximately 21:58 hours, the Gloucester Township Police were dispatched to the area of Old Black Horse Pike and Oak Avenue for a report of a hit and run motor vehicle crash.

Arriving officers located a severed utility pole and the striking vehicle on its side.  The occupants had fled the scene prior to police arrival.  Quick thinking witnesses were able to provide a description of the driver and passenger and the information was relayed to officers in the area.  A short distance away, on the State Highway 168, the driver and his passenger were located.  During the investigation, the driver was suspected of DWI and arrested.  After processing, he was released pending a court date.  The damage to the utility pole resulted in the loss of power to approximately 400 residents in the area.  GTPD was assisted by Chews Landing Fire Department (Station 82), Blenheim Fire Company (Station 83) and Gloucester Township Fire District 2 and 4 (Squad 88).
