Santa Maria Police Department Investigating Fatal Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Collision.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 13, 2026
Press Release Issued By:
Sgt. Shane Armstrong
Santa Maria Police Department

On March 13, 2026, officers from the Santa Maria Police Department, along with personnel from the Santa Maria Fire Department and American Medical Response, responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic collision at the intersection of Fesler Street and Broadway.

Preliminary investigation indicates that a 30-year-old Santa Maria woman was attempting to cross Broadway on the west side of the intersection while pushing her 1-year-old child in a stroller. At the same time, an 18-year-old Santa Maria resident driving a vehicle stopped in the eastbound number two lane of Fesler Street began making a right-hand turn onto Broadway and struck both pedestrians.
Both the mother and child sustained major injuries and were transported to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Tragically, the child was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The mother also sustained major injuries; however, the full extent of her injuries is not known at this time.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in the collision at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
