Severe Weather Alert – Strong Winds, Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms & Possible Tornadoes This Afternoon
Strong to severe thunderstorms with heavy rain, damaging winds, and the potential for isolated tornadoes are expected to move across New Jersey this afternoon and evening. Wind gusts may exceed 50 mph.
There are two primary time periods to monitor for storm activity. The first is expected to occur after approximately 2:00–3:00 PM through sunset, when scattered thunderstorms may develop capable of producing locally strong wind gusts in excess of 50 mph. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out during this time.
Following a brief lull, a second round of storms associated with a squall line is expected to move through the area later this evening and into the overnight hours. This line of storms may produce more widespread wind gusts exceeding 55 mph before gradually weakening around midnight.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather conditions and be prepared for the possibility of power outages, downed trees, and hazardous travel conditions.
If you experience a power outage, please report it directly to JCP&L at 1-888-LIGHTSS.
Safety Tips:
- Do not drive through flooded roadways. Turn around and report flooding to the Police Department.
- Always assume downed power lines are live and keep a safe distance.
For emergencies, please dial 911.
