NEWARK POLICE INVESTIGATE FATAL TRAFFIC COLLISION
Newark, California (Tuesday March 17, 2026)
On Monday, March 16, 2026, at approximately 8:11 p.m., Newark Police Officers and members of the Alameda County Fire Department responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near the intersection of Cedar Boulevard and Joaquin Murieta Avenue.
Upon arrival, first responders located an unconscious adult female and a small dog in the roadway and immediately rendered aid. Unfortunately, both the pedestrian and the dog succumbed to their injuries. The pedestrian was identified as a 34-year-old Newark resident.
The Newark Police Department Traffic Unit is actively investigating the cause of the collision. The driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. At this time, it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
