DETAILS:
Wednesday, March 18, 2026, at approximately 9:52 a.m., the West Windsor Police Department Communications detailed patrol and traffic units to a motor vehicle crash on U. S. Route 1 South in the area of Fisher Place.
A 2024 Kia operated by Driver #1 was traveling south on U.S. Route 1 when it made contact with the center median several times before drifting into the center lane. The Kia subsequently struck the rear of a 2016 Freightliner tractor trailer just prior to Fisher Place. The tractor trailer, operated by Driver #2, was traveling in the center lane at the time of the crash. Driver #2 reported feeling a slight impact and, upon checking his mirrors, observed the Kia in its final resting position in the left lane.
Police and emergency medical personnel were dispatched after the department’s Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting the incident. Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene and found the driver of the Kia unresponsive. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was initiated immediately. Officers arrived shortly thereafter and assisted EMS personnel in removing the driver from the vehicle while life-saving measures continued. The driver was transported to Capital Health Regional - Fuld Campus for treatment. The registered owner of the Kia responded to the scene and provided officers with dash camera footage of the incident. Preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of the Kia may have experienced a medical episode and lost consciousness prior to the crash. At the time of this report, Driver #1 has been admitted to the hospital with multiple life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the West Windsor Police Traffic Division. The identities of the drivers are being withheld pending investigation.
