| Narrative: | |||||
| In February 2026, deputies assigned to the Thousand Oaks Police Department were conducting a traffic enforcement operation. Deputies observed a juvenile male subject riding an off-highway electric motorcycle in the opposite direction of traffic. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic enforcement stop on the motorcyclist, but the motorcyclist failed to yield. The motorcyclist recklessly evaded deputies by committing several vehicle code violations. Deputies ended their pursuit after determining it was unsafe to continue. Deputies began an investigation into the motorcyclist and were able to positively identify him. Deputies learned the motorcyclist had previously evaded law enforcement officers on multiple occasions while riding his off-highway electric motorcycle. On March 17th, 2026, deputies served a search warrant at the motorcyclist’s residence located in the City of Thousand Oaks. Deputies found evidence related to the crime which was seized. The motorcyclist was arrested for a violation of VC 2800.2 / Felony Reckless Evading. The Thousand Oaks Police Department would like to remind the public that operating off-highway electric motorcycles on public streets is dangerous and illegal. These vehicles are designed for off-road use only and are not permitted on roadways intended for standard, street-legal traffic. To help protect the safety of all residents, motorists, and pedestrians, the Thousand Oaks Police Department will continue to actively and strictly enforce laws related to the use of off-highway electric motorcycles. Deputies will continue to monitor violations and take appropriate action when necessary. The Thousand Oaks Police Department encourages everyone to follow the law and operate vehicles responsibly to keep the community safe. |
