The Santa Maria Police Department is providing an update to the fatal vehicle versus pedestrian collision that occurred on March 13, 2026, at the intersection of Fesler Street and Broadway.

The victims in this collision have been identified as Iduau Vazquez Leal, a 30-year-old resident of Santa Maria, and her 1-year-old daughter, Leilany Diaz Vazquez, also of Santa Maria. As previously reported, the child was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased. Iduau Vazquez Leal sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.

The driver involved in the collision has been identified as Christopher Martinez, an 18-year-old resident of Santa Maria. He remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The investigation remains ongoing. Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office for review.
