Shoe Theft Suspect Arrested for Robbery, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Outstanding Warrants
An adult suspect stole multiple pairs of shoes from a retail store. When confronted by a store asset protection employee, the suspect physically resisted and fled the area. The suspect was later located and arrested for second-degree robbery, possession of burglary tools, and multiple outstanding warrants.
San Mateo, CA – On March 20, 2026, at approximately 6:13 p.m., officers from the San Mateo Police Department responded to Nordstrom Rack, located at 2280 Bridgepointe Parkway, regarding a reported theft that had just occurred.
The suspect, identified as Ryan Komara, allegedly stole approximately $150 worth of merchandise by removing security tags using a sensor-removal device. As Komara exited the store, he was contacted by an asset protection employee. When the employee attempted to detain him, Komara physically resisted, causing minor injury to the employee, and then fled the area.
The stolen merchandise and the sensor-removal device were discarded during the suspect’s flight and were subsequently recovered.
Officers later located Komara in the surrounding area. Based on probable cause established during the investigation, he was arrested on charges of second-degree robbery and possession of burglary tools. Komara also had multiple outstanding warrants from other counties, for which he was additionally booked.
