On 03/22/26 at 0133 AM, Santa Maria police officers responded to a call involving a suicidal individual who had reportedly expressed a desire for officers to use deadly force against him. Dispatch advised that the subject was armed with a knife and had threatened to attack responding officers in an apparent attempt to provoke a lethal confrontation.
Upon arrival, officers prioritized safety by attempting to evacuate family members from the residence while assessing the situation. During this time, they could hear a loud disturbance coming from inside the home.
Officers then made contact with the subject and, through coordinated tactical efforts, safely detained him without further incident. No injuries were reported. The individual was subsequently provided medical attention and transported for mental health evaluation and assistance.
The incident was resolved without the use of force, highlighting officers’ de-escalation efforts and focus on preserving life.
