Voluntary Suspension of Outdoor Burning

Hamilton County Wildfire Conditions Voluntary Suspension of Outdoor Burning Hamilton County is experiencing very dry conditions that are increasing our wildfire risk. Over the past few weeks, drought indicators have climbed. Our fine fuels like grasses, pine needles, and leaf litter are fully cured. Combined with low humidity and occasional gusty winds, even a small spark can spread quickly. Because of these conditions, the Board of County Commissioners is asking residents to voluntarily pause all outdoor burning until conditions improve. We’re asking the community to avoid: - Yard debris burning - Burn barrels - Bonfires and recreational fires - Land‑clearing burns - Any open flame near dry vegetation Our goal is simple: protect homes, property, and the safety of our residents and first responders. This voluntary pause helps reduce the chance of accidental fires during this elevated‑risk period. We’ll continue monitoring conditions closely with the Florida Forest Service and will update the community if anything changes.
