On March 26, 2026, the Valero Refinery had a material release from the south flare tower. This release resulted in visible black smoke and soot, along with odors. If you smell gas odors or you are in a sensitive group such as young children or elderly, you may choose to voluntarily shelter in place with doors and windows closed. If you are experiencing medical impacts, call 911.
Benicia Fire Department staff will continue to monitor the situation. We will notify the community if there are any significant changes.
