Illegal ATV and Dirt Bike Activity Leads to Arrests, Weapons Seized
For several weeks, the Oakland Police Department has monitored a group of dirt bike and ATV riders illegally riding in our community.
On March 2, 2026, officers responded to reports of illegal dirt bike and ATV riding on city streets. During this activity, a rider attempted to rob and carjack a victim in the 5400 block of Telegraph Avenue. A patrol officer witnessed the incident and arrested the suspect. Other group members briefly surrounded the officer, and one suspect tried to kick the officer before leaving the area with the other riders. Thankfully, the officer was not struck.
OPD’s helicopter, ARGUS, monitored the group as they escaped. During this time, one rider hit a dog and kept going. The dog received treatment for its injuries.
Following the incident, OPD’s Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Reduction Team (CRT) West conducted a thorough investigation. On March 23, 2026, CRT West served search warrants in Pittsburg, Antioch, and Brentwood, leading to the identification and arrest of additional suspects.
After weeks of follow-up work, officers arrested three people. They seized six dirt bikes, one vehicle, two semi-automatic pistols, and one assault rifle linked to the group.
