Gloucester Township Police Media Release- Apartment Fire Quickly Contained at Lakeview Apartments; No Injuries Reported 3-26-2026
On March 26, 2026, at approximately 1:21 PM, units were dispatched to the Lakeview Apartments, located at 590 Lower Landing Road in Blackwood, for a reported bedroom fire. Upon arrival, first-arriving officers encountered heavy smoke conditions and immediately began evacuating adjacent and neighboring units to ensure resident safety.
Fire suppression efforts were led by Squad 88, staffed by Gloucester Township Fire Districts 2 and 4, and were assisted by the Chews Landing Fire Department, Runnemede Fire Department, and Glendora Fire Company. Inspira EMS also responded to provide medical support.
The fire was brought under control quickly, limiting damage to the involved unit. The cause remains under investigation by Fire Marshal 82. One apartment unit was deemed uninhabitable as a result of the incident. The Gloucester Township Office of Emergency Management and the American Red Cross are assisting displaced residents with temporary housing and support.
Secondary Incident: Brush Fire on Linden Court
At approximately 1:49 PM, while units were still operating in the area, responders were notified of a brush fire on Linden Court in Blackwood, a few blocks from the initial incident. While both incidents occurred in close proximity, they are not related.
The fire was extinguished by the Deptford Fire Department and resulted in damage to a residential fence. Following investigation, the incident was determined to be non-suspicious in nature.
There were no reported injuries to residents or responding personnel in either incident.
Safety Reminder: Today’s incidents serve as a reminder of how quickly fire conditions can develop, both inside and outside the home. Open burning is prohibited by local ordinance. Residents are reminded to ensure smoke detectors are present and functioning, to regularly test them, and to follow all applicable fire safety regulations.
