New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection test pitting to close 14th Street temporarily; NJ Transit buses to re-route during work
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) will conduct test pitting operations starting on Monday, March 30, on 14th Street between Washington Street and Bloomfield Street. The test pitting and related closures will take place on weekdays for approximately two weeks.
During this work, 14th Street will be closed to vehicular traffic between Washington and Bloomfield Streets from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The roadway will reopen by 6 p.m. each day.
Due to the test pitting operations and related closures, NJ Transit will detour NYC-bound buses along Washington Street to 15th Street where they will continue to Willow Avenue and resume the regular route north.
Hoboken Terminal-bound buses will stay on Willow Ave until 11th Street, then head to Washington Street, resuming the normal route south. Rerouted buses heading to Hoboken Terminal will use existing stops on Willow Avenue between 11th Street south of 15th Street.
NJ Transit will temporarily relocate the NYC-bound bus stop on the south side of 15th Street to the north side of the Washington Street intersection. NJ Transit has stated that they will post temporary signage to direct customers accordingly.
Drivers and pedestrians are advised to follow all posted signage and allow for additional travel time. Pedestrian access will be maintained. Officers will be on site to assist with detours.
The Rebuild by Design – Hudson River project aims to mitigate flooding caused by storm surge through the construction of a resist structure comprised of levees, berms, and floodgates. The resist structure will be integrated into the urban landscape, including within Harborside Park located in northeast Hoboken and through wayfinding signage, benches, and other urban amenities in southern Hoboken.
