Jumping Branch Fire Update – McDowell County
The Jumping Branch Fire, located north of Locust Cove Road in the Buck Creek community, is currently estimated at approximately 175 acres in size and remains 0% contained. Fire crews from multiple departments continue to work diligently to contain the fire and protect surrounding structures.
At this time, there have been no reported injuries and no structures have been lost. There are currently no evacuation orders in place.
Highway 80 remains closed from Toms Creek Road to the Yancey County line to ensure the safety of emergency personnel operating in the area. Residents and motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
