Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., announces that the following streets will be closed during the hours below due to the New Jersey Department of Transportation conducting railroad crossing repairs at Elizabeth Avenue and Route 27/Frelinghuysen Avenue.
Beginning from 7 a.m. Tuesday, March 31st to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 2026
• Peddie Street between Elizabeth Avenue and Route 27/Frelinghuysen Avenue
The following detours will be in place:
Peddie Street eastbound detour:
- Motorists on Peddie St. eastbound will be directed to turn left onto Elizabeth Ave.
- Turn right onto Concord St.
- Turn right onto Route 27/Frelinghuysen Ave. (back to Peddie St.)
Peddie Street westbound detour:
- Motorists on Peddie St. westbound will be directed to turn right onto Route 27/Frelinghuysen Ave. (southbound)
- Turn left onto Concord St.
- Turn left onto Elizabeth Ave. (back to Peddie St.)
Drivers are advised to anticipate delays and plan alternate routes.
