Sheriff Clint Roach reports that on April 1, 2026, at approximately 0600 hours, Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of M-60 and Dailey Rd in Jefferson Township, Cass County, Michigan.

The investigation shows that John Handlang,(22 yrs old of Coloma, MI) was Northbound on Dailey Rd. when he passed the stop sign and entered the intersection of M-60 and Dailey Rd.  Sophia Smith, who was traveling Southbound on M-60 collided with Handlang.  Smith, and her approximately 9 month old passenger, were transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital by ambulance for injuries sustained in the crash. 

Assisting Agencies in this crash were the Michigan State Police, SMCAS Ambulance Service, and Central Cass Fire.  

This crash remains under investigation.
