Alaska DMV Scam
An active smishing (SMS phishing) scam is targeting Alaskans with text messages falsely claiming to be from the DMV, threatening license suspension over unpaid fines. These messages contain links to fake websites designed to steal personal and financial information. The Alaska DMV never requests payment or personal info via text. How to Protect Yourself: Do Not Click: Never click links in unsolicited DMV text messages. Ignore & Delete: Delete the text immediately, especially if it includes urgent, threatening language or comes from an unfamiliar number. Verify Independently: If you fear you have a real violation, contact the DMV directly through their official website or official phone numbers rather than using links in a text. Report: Forward the fraudulent text message to 7726 ("SPAM"). Check the URL: Fake links often look like "alaska.gov-wep.digital/pay" or similar, not the official ".gov" domain.
