Incident: Driver Arrested After Colliding with a Juvenile Pedestrian and Fleeing
Occurred Date : April 2nd, 2026
Occurred Time: 04:12 PM
Location: Washington St./ Howard St.
Suspect: Ron Jones (63-year-old Petaluma resident)
Charges: 20001 CVC- Felony Hit and Run with Injury
23153 CVC- Felony DUI +.08% BAC
On 04/02/2026 at approximately 4:12 PM, the Petaluma Police Department received several 911 calls from witnesses who reported a vehicle had collided with a 10-year-old pedestrian at the intersection of Washington St. and Howard Street.
The witnesses then reported the driver fled the scene in his vehicle westbound on Bodega Avenue. A license plate was provided to PPD Dispatch, which gave a possible address of the registered owner of the vehicle.
Petaluma officers arrived on scene and located the victim, who was determined to be suffering from minor injuries. The juvenile victim was ultimately transported by the Petaluma Fire Department to a medical facility for treatment of his injuries.
Petaluma officers responded to the suspected driver’s residence and contacted Ron Jones. Jones ultimately admitted to striking the pedestrian and fleeing the scene. As officers were interviewing Jones, they noticed objective signs of alcohol intoxication.
A DUI investigation was initiated by PPD’s DUI Enforcement Officer, and Jones was determined to be operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Jones was arrested for the above-mentioned charges and booked at the Sonoma County Jail.
The investigation into the collision is on-going, but early reports state the pedestrian was walking in the marked crosswalk when he was struck. The juvenile victim sustained minor injuries and is expected to fully recover.
