NEWARK DETECTIVES CONDUCTING DEATH INVESTIGATION

Newark, California (Friday, April 3, 2026)

On Tuesday March 31, 2026, at approximately 9:11 p.m., Newark Police Officers, along with members of the Alameda County Fire Department, responded to the 39000 block of Cedar Boulevard for a report of an individual experiencing a medical emergency.

Upon arrival, first responders located an unconscious adult male and immediately began providing medical aid. Despite life-saving efforts, the 57-year-old Newark resident was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Based on preliminary findings, it appears the male may have been involved in a physical altercation prior to experiencing the medical emergency. The Newark Police Department Detective Unit responded and assumed the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. The cause of death is pending autopsy results from the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau. The identity of the decedent is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

At this time, the incident is believed to be isolated, and there is no active threat to the community.  We appreciate the community's patience as this investigation continues. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
