City Storm Response Update: Friday 4/3

City monitoring potential for rain and wind next week

The City is closely monitoring forecasts from the National Weather Service (NWS). Current forecasts show the potential for moderate to heavy rain and gusty winds in the middle of the coming week. According to the NWS, “…it is still too early to accurately determine amounts and which islands would be most affected. Please keep yourself updated through the weekend for the latest forecasts.” The City will provide updates as the system moves closer to the islands. Any weather watches, advisories, or warnings will be sent to HNL Alert subscribers when they are issued by the NWS. Visit weather.hnlalert.gov for latest weather updates.

Waialua Community Assistance Center (CAC)

The Waialua Community Assistance Center (CAC) and the Community Distribution Hub have unified into a single operation at Waialua District Park, effective today, Friday, April 3, 2026.

The CAC is open daily, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., in the Waialua District Park gymnasium. Parking is available at Waialua District Park, with additional parking available at Waialua Elementary School on days when school is not in session. Visitors are encouraged to follow posted signage for parking and shuttle information.

The Community Distribution Hub is open daily from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and again from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., in the parking lot along Goodale Avenue.

Both operations will be closed on Easter Sunday, but will reopen for normal hours on Monday morning. Additionally, services at the CAC will be limited on Saturday, but will include the free medical clinic and personnel from the Salvation Army and Hawaii Foodbank.

Pop-Up Community Assistance Center at BYUH in Lāʻie on Saturday

Tomorrow, Saturday, April 4, the City and County of Honolulu will host a Pop-Up Community Assistance Fair from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Brigham Young University Hawaiʻi Gymnasium in Lāʻie to support Windward and North Shore residents.

The one-day event will bring together City agencies and nonprofit partners to provide recovery resources and services, including financial assistance, food distribution and SNAP enrollment support, vital document replacement, insurance guidance, agricultural support, shelter and housing assistance, permitting and utility assistance, and other government services. Disaster Recovery Housing Program Update

The City and County of Honolulu, in coordination with State and nonprofit partners, continues to assist residents displaced by the Kona Low storms through temporary housing and disaster case management.

Approximately 50 temporary housing units have been secured so far, along with 80 temporary housing rooms at the Inn at Schofield Barracks available through April 30.

Residents in need of housing assistance or case management support are encouraged to visit the Community Assistance Center or call 211 to be connected to available housing resources.

Drywall Disposal

To help support storm recovery efforts, the Department of Environmental Services will be accepting storm-damaged drywall at select disposal facilities starting today, Friday, April 3. Residents may drop off storm-damaged drywall only, cut into pieces no larger than 3 feet by 3 feet, at the Lāʻie Convenience Center, Wahiawā Convenience Center, and Kawailoa Transfer Station.

Lāʻie Storm Debris Drop-Off

The City and County of Honolulu Department of Environmental Services (ENV) will host a storm debris drop-off event on Saturday, April 4, to assist residents in Lā‘ie and surrounding communities with ongoing cleanup efforts following recent severe weather.

The drop-off will take place at Brigham Young University Hawaiʻi (BYUH) parking lot in Lāʻie from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please enter on Naniloa Loop, turn left into the BYUH side entrance, and take an immediate right into the parking lot. Please note there is construction at the entrance of BYUH.

HFD Returns to Waialua Fire Station 14

The Honolulu Fire Department announced Friday morning that personnel stationed in Waialua have moved back into Waialua Fire Station 14 and resumed normal operations at their home station.

Station 14 was rendered temporarily uninhabitable after it sustained heavy damage during the Kona low floods, and HFD personnel have been working out of trailers at Waialua District Park to ensure uninterrupted 911 emergency services for the Waialua and Haleʻiwa communities during response and recovery operations.

The City’s Department of Facility Maintenance conducted extensive salvage, repair and restoration work over the past two weeks, allowing HFD personnel to return.
