This is an AC Alert from City of Albany. Missing Person (Elderly / Dementia / Alzheimer's) . Horace “Bernard” Smith, Age 44, Male, 6’2” with thin build, hazel eyes, black hair. Smith was last seen wearing a hat, gray cardigan, gray shorts, tall white socks, and dark colored shoes. Last seen at Hillside Ave and Taft Street at 4AM. If seen, call 510-525-7300.
On April 3rd, 2026, Horace “Bernard” Smith, who prefers going by his middle name of Bernard, spoke with family via telephone where he shared numerous paranoid thoughts including being followed by vehicles and references to cults.
Today, April 4th, 2026 at approximately 4:00 AM, Smith contacted family stating that he had arrived at their home in the City of Albany. This was unexpected and Smith had only visited on one prior occasion. Smith stated his personal belongings were left behind in his vehicle, along with his car keys and cell phone. Smith is then seen on surveillance footage departing south.
Smith is a military veteran with a history of self-harm. Smith likes to be outdoors and might possibly be heading to a local park or open space. If seen please contact the Albany Police Department, 510-525-7300, or your local law enforcement agency.
