SVPD Drone Used to Located Critical Missing Person
On April 5, 2026, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department (Thousand Oaks Station) was contacted by the family of an elderly Simi Valley resident who had gone missing. The subject was last seen at approximately 9 am. Family members indicated the man frequently hiked in the hills between Moorpark and Simi Valley.
Around 8:30 pm, the missing person's vehicle was located near Los Alamos Canyon Road and Quimisa Drive. Simi Valley Police Department officers responded to the area and initiated a search.
During the search, an SVPD K-9 Officer deployed a drone, which detected a heat signature approximately two miles north of the vehicle in a rugged hillside area north of the 118 Freeway. A team of SVPD officers responded on foot to the location and located the 72-year-old male in dense brush, suffering from injuries consistent with a serious slip-and-fall.
Officers rendered aid and safely evacuated the subject from the hillside. He was transported to Los Robles Hospital for medical treatment.
